I almost always see that others have marked transferrin as a gene. I thought that because transferrin is a protein, that it should not be marked as a gene. Am I wrong?

I put almost the same question in thread "Complex oligomeric Golgi (COG) complex" and Ginger answered in this way:
You don't have to mark broad categories of proteins like 'glycoprotein', but you should mark specific proteins like 'transferrin'. Many proteins like 'transferrin' will show up with no reference to the gene itself, but shares the same name as the gene. Since 'transferrin' (the protein) is a product of the transferrin gene, you should mark it.

Looks like Mario beat me in answering...and that's FANTASTIC! Thanks, Mario!!! The reason to mark specific proteins is that they are gene products which is included in the genes concept.
